Tomorrow is one of the most important days of our year. This is where we set the pace for the rest of our ministry. Sunday will be about work. It will define our work in more ways than you can imagine.
The students and I will make ourselves available to every person that is moving into the dorms at UAM. We’ll move everything that they let us. We’ll be moving tv’s and stereo’s and food and clothes and refrigerators; you name it and we’ll move it. We’ll be moving stuff up three flights of stairs and we’ll move it in the rain or sun.
What will define our work is not how much we move but how we move it. We’re going to do our best to treat each one of these students as if they were Jesus, Himself. We’ll love them for His sake. No matter how long it takes, we’ll work to help them. We’ll listen to their stories and tell them about our stories. Most importantly, we’ll try to tell them about His story. We want to earn the right to be heard by quietly working our way into their hearts. Hopefully, they’ll know that we care about them because of the way we work.
You see, our work is helping people get free from the baggage, the weight, that they carry around. That’s what Jesus does for us and that’s what we want to do for them. All of us have weight that holds us back. We all want to be set free. We’ll do our best to free these students from the “weight that so easily besets” them in more ways than one. That is our work.
