Tissue Plasminogen Activator (tPA) is a drug used for busting clots in the blood stream. It’s main use is in victims of heart attack and stroke. The final data is not in, as of yet, but it is widely used as a “magic bullet”. If administered within the first three hours of stroke, it has a high rate of complete recovery for the patients to whom it is given.

But tPA is still under examination. All the facts aren’t in. It’s use is controversial but there is nothing else like it. If the stroke is severe and it is caused by a blood clot then you have only one choice or no choice at all.

I would consider it criminal for a doctor to care for the victim of a severe stroke and not offer his family the option of tPA. They say that it has to be administered within the first three hours of onset for it to be effective. Imagine a physician watching the minutes pass, knowing that time is running out, and doing nothing. But if I sit and watch people pass me, every day, and do not share the gospel, am I not doing same?
