“My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me.” John 17.20,21
“All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of his possessions was his own, but they shared everything they had.” Acts 4.32
How hard is it to be one? How difficult is it for two people to “become one”? Have you ever been a part of a church that was one? Have you ever been one in heart and mind with anyone else? I believe it is one of the most difficult goals for any organization. Is it possible for all the believers to become one?
My goal for this semester is that I will be one; that our group will become one; that our university community will unite as one; that we will follow the One and Only.
I don’t believe that Jesus was praying for uniformity. I believe that he was praying for unity through diversity. It doesn’t matter if you are rich or poor. It doesn’t matter if you are black or white. It doesn’t matter if your i.q. is high or low. It makes no difference whether you are somebody or nobody. All can be one through the One and Only.
May the pursuit of my life be the unity of the Spirit through the bonds of faith in the One and Only who has the power, the will, and the desire to make us all one.
