Odds and Ends

January 28th, 2009

I wish you could all go in the Center and see what is going on. It’s amazing. The brick will be done in four or five days and the target date for project completion is the last week of March. Praise the Lord and pass the nail pouch.

If anyone has any knowledge of who or whom it was that borrowed my best hunting boots would you please ask whomever has them to return them post haste. I need those. Duck season is over but hunting season is not.

The duck tree is empty for the last time this season. I have a tree by my front door where I hang my ducks to chill over night before I clean them. I cleaned the last ducks this evening. I can’t believe that the season has closed. I wish it lasted for another month. I was just getting warmed up.

Every morning of duck season I woke up at no later than 3:30am. I set my alarm for 4am and I always turned it off before it went off. Do you know why that happened? Because I’m crazy? NO, because I love to hunt ducks and I can’t wait until the day begins so that I can chase them. I can’t sleep because the anticipation is too great.

David said, “the zeal for your house consumes me.” He loved the Lord and His house so much that he was totally absorbed in the idea of building a temple for Him and caring for it. What consumes you? What is it that fuels your passion? How long has it been since you have been passionate for God, for His Word, for His house, for His people? Why is that?

I love my job right now. I love the fact that the Center is being built and soon will be open. I am thrilled that students are accepting Christ and coming for baptism. I’m excited about training my interns. I’m so proud that my pastor is going to Africa with his family to help James Taylor and his family. Life is spinning in greased grooves. I have no problem getting up and going to work. Things are going great. How about you?

Doesn’t it chap your hide to hear someone go on like that? Don’t you just want to slap them and tell them to get a grip. Wouldn’t you love to shake them up and let them know that real life can’t be like that? But what if it could? What if the zeal for God consumed us in such a way that all we cared about was what He cared about? What if poor people and sick people and crazy people were what we were looking for to make us feel fulfilled? What if money and power and fame didn’t matter to us at all? What if we cared for people and used things instead of using people and caring for things? What if the zeal for God’s house consumed us?

Pray for passion. Pursue God. Immerse yourself in His Word. Care for people. Sell your stuff. Maybe you’ll beat your alarm clock this morning. Here’s hoping you find something worth rising and shining for.
