“Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” Matt.6.9,10
Ever wonder what heaven is like? Everyone does, I guess. My favorite question about heaven came from Dustin Ferguson. Dustin asked me once, “Do they wear clothes in heaven?” “I don’t know, Dustin. I know that we are supposed to get a robe when we get there”, I replied. “But do we have to wear it?” Dustin was always a free thinker. Dustin died a few months ago and I pictured him, in my mind, walking to the gates of heaven, greeting Peter, receiving his robe, throwing it over his shoulder, and walking through the Pearly Gates as naked as a jaybird with a smile as big as all eternity. How do you picture heaven?
What kind of music is there? What kind of style do they play? What kind of instrumentation does God use? Who decides? Who is the Grand Senior Worship Pastor of heaven? I have an opinion. I believe that every style of music known to man and some that aren’t known yet will be in heaven. I do not believe that any one style or any one song can fully represent or exalt the God of the Universe. I believe it will take all that we have to praise Him properly. I know that every nation, tribe, and tongue will be present and represented so why not every tempo, style, and instrumentation as well? “Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.”
I believe that heaven is about Unity and not Uniformity. I believe that the more Diversity the greater the Unity. We are not all alike. We will never be alike but we will one day all be united in praise and worship as One Race with One King in One Kingdom. And with one voice in every language available to us and in every style imaginable we will pour out our praise forever for the One who was and is and is to come. So why not here as well as heaven?
