Dustin Ferguson

September 24th, 2008

Dustin Ferguson was in an automobile accident on Monday. Our church family suffered a great loss when Dustin died. Dustin had a birthday on Sunday; he was 19. Dustin Ferguson was a happy, friendly, loving person. You had to go a long way to get on “Rooster’s” bad side. As a matter of fact, I don’t know anyone who could consistently stay there.

He loved his family. He loved his fiancee. He loved his friends. He loved his church. He loved God. He loved. I’m sitting here trying to sum all this up for you and I can’t do it in just a few lines. His life was full of fun. He lived every second of it.

His family was devastated. Dustin’s passing has brought on a week of reevaluation for many of us. I hope that all of us have had our eyes opened to just how short life really is. So, here is what we need to do in light of what we now know.

We have no time to waste. We need to enjoy every second. We need to share the gospel with everyone around us. We need to let Dustin’s passing open the door to conversations about “second life” and how to prepare for it.

We need to come together to support his family with our prayers, our presence, and our finances. Our presence is needed at his funeral. The funeral will be at Pauline at 4pm on Thursday. Dustin’s favorite color was green so I suggest that all of us wear some in honor of Dustin. Pray for his family. His mothers’ name is Tina, his dads’ name is Ray, his little sisters’ name is Becca, his grandma is Diane and his grandpa is Tommy. Pray for them by name. The funeral cost is going to be huge. We are going to take up an offering for his family at Renown on Thursday night. Be ready to give what you can.

Dustin is more alive than he has ever been. He’s living out his “second life”. If he could tell us anything I feel sure he would tell us to enjoy ourselves and not waste a minute.

So, it’s time to mobilize. Invite everyone you can think of to Renown this Thursday because we are going to tell the truth and let the Spirit of God move in our hearts. Share the gospel with anyone who will listen. Love, laugh, and live as hard as you can. Don’t waste one second. Dustin didn’t.
