It’s six o’clock in the morning and Cody is singing. He’s singing in the bathtub. He’s sitting in the upstairs bathroom of my home in a tub full of bubbles and he’s singing.
He stayed the night with us last night. His mom called me yesterday at 3pm and asked if I could met his bus when it dropped him off from school. His mom’s brother had to be hospitalized and she had noone else to call. I grabbed one of my guys and we took off for Winchester Rd..
Cody stepped off the bus with his sack of goodies that the school gives him every Friday. He gets a “goody bag” from the school because they know how little the family has and they provide some snacks and drinks for him. It’s enough to get him through the weekend.
I didn’t have to explain anything to him. He knew his uncle was in the hospital. He didn’t ask for any explaination. He was ready to go.
He hung out with me at the house while we waited on Emily to finish getting ready and then we headed to church. He hung out with the kids at the D-Now worship time and he played on the computer in the secretaries office while we finished up the music and sent the kids back home.
He came back to the house with me and we ate some snacks, turned on the Disney channel and laid down in the floor with a blanket and a couple of pillows. He was grinnin’ from ear to ear, eating Oreo’s and drinkin’ milk and watching “The Suite Life”.
I fell asleep. He woke me at 5:30. He said he’d slept all he could and he was ready for a bath. My kind of kid. Excuse me a minute. He’s calling me from the stairs. Seems he’s ready to get out.
I’m back. He’s out of the tub and ready for the day. He’s getting his clothes on and I’m finishing this blog. As soon as I sign off we are heading to Wal Mart to get a few new t-shirts and some breakfast from Huddle House.
You’re wondering what the point of all this narrative is. God made me the way I am for a reason. Some folks think I’m crazy for getting up so early. They can’t believe that I would enjoy rising before the sun every day. What in the world could be so important that you have to get up so soon?
God was preparing me. If I could not rise early I would never have heard Cody singing. I would not have enjoyed this moment. This would have been a chore to me but God prepared me. I’m ready for the day. It’s no burden for me to rise up with Cody. Cody needed someone who could rise and help him. I needed someone to rise and help. God prepared the two of us to help eachother.
Cody is ready and not very good at waiting so I better go before he wakes up the whole house. Before I go, though, let me ask you a question. Is there something in your life that has happened or that is happening right now that makes no sense to you? Perfect. God is preparing you. Listen. Cody is singing.

That precious child is very fortunate to have you, maybe both of you are to have each other. Why don’t you tell the story sometimes how God brought the two of you together? Tell those stories of how the MBSF’ers have helped take that kid under their wings along with you. I am sure you have far more to tell than just what many of us have observed.

Thanks, Bill. I’ll do that.
