Causes

December 28th, 2008

Facebook is a great tool. I can keep in touch with most of my students and have some fun at the same time. There is a problem, though. I get all kinds of invitations. I get Vampire invitations and Knight invitations, invitations to events and groups. They tend to slow me down and some are a little bothersome. The ones that trouble me, however, are the cause invitations.

There are causes all over facebook. End cancer, stamp out world hunger, save the whales, save the seals, save the polar bears. Does anyone else notice that some of these animals eat each other so if we save them all then we’ll be killing some of the ones that we save. Anyway, it’s as if we’ve decided that we’ll save the planet from devastation if we have enough causes and we act accordingly.

So, in light of that I’ve found the ultimate cause; Destroy Satan. If we just eliminated the Devil then all this evil would disappear. Let’s just band together right now and pray. Pray with me. Come on. You all know that you want death and plague and storm and poverty and abuse and rape and incest to cease. Let’s pray that God destroys Lucifer and his empire of doom right this minute. Are you ready?

I feel you hesitating. You’re thinking about it, aren’t you? What are you wondering? Is it that you doubt God would do that? Or, do you doubt that He would do it right now? Is something starting to come clear to you? Are you beginning to get my drift? Do you smell the coffee?

God is going to destroy Satan and deliver us from the clutches of the Wicked One but not until He’s given every man, woman, boy, and girl time to choose whom he will serve. Jesus said, “the poor you will have with you always.” We aren’t going to end world hunger. We aren’t going to end poverty or war or famine. WE CAN’T because unless you bind Satan that stuff is going to continue. Only God can end this Wicked Realm and it is not time, at least not this minute.

So what do we do in the mean time? We fight. We fight with everything we’ve got. We put on the “whole armor of God so that we may be able to stand against the tricks of the devil.” And once we put the armor on we just keep fighting. We will fight world hunger and we will fight the AIDS epidemic and we’ll fight for clean water and civil rights and we’ll struggle to stop war and the bloodshed of the innocent and incest and rape. We’ll war against abortion and immorality but in the fight we will understand that we do not war against “flesh and blood but against the rulers, the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” We’ll struggle and we’ll lose some battles but we know that one day “at the name of Jesus every knee should bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” We know that someday “He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”

So let’s take up the cause; “Destroy the Old Order of things.” The Old Order is going to pass away; it’s going to die, to cease to exist and we’re going to help that happen. Here’s how we do it. Let us pray; “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.” The battle lines are drawn. The enemy has yet to be destroyed. Now, put on the armor. Kneel and fight. Rise and go to war.
